On the 21st of October 8 Churches representing 6 denominations in the Lockyer Valley including the Gatton Church of Christ will be holding a non-denominational premier event at the Gatton Showgrounds.
This event called the “Church Together” is based on a similar event held each year since around 1993 in Perth Western Australia to promote to the community/ media and the general populace that God and Jesus Christ whom we all serve collectively, but in different ways, are alive and well and that we as Christians are not fragmented but support each other in our endeavours to reach everybody with the truth.
The initial meeting in Perth back in 1993 had around 650 people in attendance but has grown tremendously over the years and now around 15,000-20,000 attend annually affirming together that Jesus Christ is Lord and it is a wonderful witness to the city of Perth. Having lived in Perth for 14 years and attending most of the Church Together events during that time I can attest to the enormous inspiration that an outreach such as this generates.
The local ministers fraternal have decided to bring this event to the Lockyer Valley and Pastor Trevor Bartley of the Rhema Church (having previously been involved with the church together in Perth) is heading up the organisation of this years event. We are praying earnestly for a minimum of 2000 people to attend our first event.
The Mayor Steve Jones and the local council are fully behind our efforts and have graciously allowed us the use of the showgrounds free of charge as a community service.
Pastor Wayne Alcorn, President of the Australian Christian Churches, will be bringing the address and Brendon Walmsley from Toowoomba will be the song leader and guest artist. We will get underway on the 21st of October around 4pm with family events, activities for the children:- face painting, jumping castle, puppets, volley ball etc.. There will be a sausage sizzle/ bar-b-q, after which the entertainment and meeting will start around 6pm planning to conclude by 7.30pm.
We would value much prayer and intercession for this event and trust that the outreach into the community will see souls won for the Lord; that the response to the event will exceed our expectations and the love of Christ spread into the community and change lives.
To find out more about the “Church Together” we have a website www.churchtogether.webs.com look us up and support our efforts and help promote the purpose of Christ and Christian unity.
